Last Thursday (Aug. 16), state officials announced that eligible voters with a New York State driver’s license or state-issued identification can now register to vote online, and also change their address or party enrollment.  The online system is an update of the “motor voter” registration run by the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which processes 300,000 voter applications a year.

According to the governor’s office, less than 64 percent of eligible New York voters are registered, and the state ranks 47th in the nation in voter registration.
