The fall election season is beginning to heat up. In the coming weeks, Unshackle Upstate Update will tell you about the state legislative primaries that are most important to our region.
In the 43rd Senate District, which includes parts of Saratoga, Washington, Rensselaer and Columbia counties, incumbent Republican Roy McDonald is being challenged by Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione. McDonald is being challenged, at least in part, because of his 2011 vote to legalize same sex marriage.
Incumbent Democratic Majority Leader Ron Canestrari is not running for re-election in the Capital District’s 108th Assembly District. Cohoes Mayor John McDonald and Albany Common Council President Carolyn McLaughlin are competing in the Democratic primary to replace him.
Incumbent Republican Dan Burling is not running for re-election in the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie County and all of Wyoming County. Dan Humiston, David DiPietro, Christopher Lane, and David Mariacher are competing in the Republican primary to replace him.
