On Tuesday, the Senate unanimously approved the nominations of John Koelmel, Onondaga County Executive Joanne Mahoney and Terrance Flynn as trustees of the New York Power Authority (NYPA). Gov. Cuomo has recommended to the NYPA trustees that Mr. Koelmel be elected to serve as Chairman of NYPA.

NYPA is the nation’s largest state power organization, operating 17 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. Its customer base includes large and small businesses, not-for-profit organizations, community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives and government entities.

Through its low-cost power and preservation power programs, NYPA can be an important part of Upstate New York’s econ0omic development efforts.
