Last Thursday, Gov. Cuomo announced a $40 million competitive grant program for local governments that have demonstrated recurring savings for taxpayers from streamlined operations and innovative, cost-cutting projects.
The Local Government Efficiency (LGE) Program provides technical assistance and grants to local governments for the development of projects that will achieve savings and improve municipal efficiency through shared services, cooperative agreements, mergers, consolidations and dissolutions.
Projects eligible for awards must have commenced on or after Jan. 1, 2010 and successful applicants will receive as much as $25 per resident, up to a maximum of $5 million.
These are exactly the types of programs that we need more of – state investments in local governments that will result in real local tax relief. Be sure to pass this information along to your local government officials and let them know you support government consolidation.
