Last Tuesday, the Assembly approved one of its top legislative priorities, a bill to increase the state’s minimum wage.  A.9148 would increase the state’s minimum wage to $8.50 in January 2013. The state’s minimum wage will thereafter be indexed, requiring an increase each year to adjust for inflation according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) every year beginning in January 2014.

We agree with Senate Majority Leader Skelos, who says that the Assembly’s proposal is unacceptable, and that a minimum wage increase would hurt the state’s economy and competitiveness.
