A Message from Brian Sampson

This week the Senate and Assembly passed their “one house” budget resolutions and began meetings of the Joint Legislative Conference Committees to publicly discuss each house’s position on the various components of the state budget.

There are now less than two weeks left before the State budget is due, and we at Unshackle Upstate continue our fight in Albany for reduced taxes, reduced state spending, reduced mandates and reduced state debt.  As both houses of the Legislature continue to deliberate on the state budget, we have continued our efforts in ensuring that Upstate’s voice is heard.

This past week, I was in Albany meeting with members of the Legislature on the State Budget and the Property Tax Cap and on Wednesday I was in Binghamton meeting on the Property Tax Cap and with potential funders.

Support Unshackle Upstate

We need your help!  Unshackle Upstate continues to fight for Upstate’s taxpayers and job creators and for a New York State with lower taxes, lower spending, reduced mandates and reduced state debt. Our efforts to revive the Upstate economy and promote private sector job growth would be impossible without your support. Whether it’s $50 or $500, your contribution will enable us to amplify our voice in Albany and help fight back against well-funded interests that are committed to maintaining the status quo.  Only by working together, can we change New York and make it a better place to live and work.

Our advocacy efforts in Albany on the property tax cap continue and we need our supporters help to make property tax relief a reality in New York State.  We were encouraged this week to hear that Gov. Cuomo publicly announced his support for the two-percent property tax cap to be included in the enacted state budget.  We need you to continue to contact the Governor and members of the Legislature and tell them that you support the tax cap proposal.  We cannot afford any further delays and uncertainty on this issue, and we need you to recruit your family, friends and neighbors to join our efforts and support the two-percent property tax cap.

Unshackle Upstate was founded as organization rooted in the principles of lowering taxes, lowering spending, reducing mandates and reducing state debt in New York State, and we continue to advocate against policies that will have a detrimental impact on the taxpayers and job creators.  A recent amendment to the Executive Budget includes a provision that expands a tax on certain health care services.  If enacted, this would result in an additional 1-2% in the cost of health insurance premiums.  While the Senate has rejected this tax in their “one house” budget resolution, the Assembly has not.

Click here to tell the Governor and Assembly to reject this hidden tax on our health insurance.
